There are no direct flights into Ipoh from Kuching — Ipoh's small airport only serves Singapore and Johor Bahru — so you'll connect through either Kuala Lumpur or Penang and travel overland for the last stretch.

Via Kuala Lumpur: fly Kuching (KCH) to KL (KUL), about 1 hour 45 minutes and very frequent — roughly 18 flights a day on AirAsia, Batik Air, Firefly and Malaysia Airlines. From the airport there are two easy ways up. The simplest is a direct coach from KLIA or KLIA2 to Ipoh's Amanjaya terminal — around 3.5 hours, about RM45, running through the day and late into the night (Yoyo Express, StarMart and Star Shuttle all serve it). You board at the terminal, so there is nothing to change. If you would rather take the train, ride the KLIA Ekspres to KL Sentral first (28 minutes, RM55, every 20 minutes) and pick up the ETS to Ipoh from there, about 2.5 hours. Driving up the expressway takes 2 to 2.5 hours.

Via Penang: AirAsia flies Kuching (KCH) to Penang (PEN) direct, about 2 hours, a couple of times a day. Penang's airport is on the island, and Sungai Nibong bus terminal is only about six kilometres away — ten minutes by Grab. Coaches run from Sungai Nibong to Ipoh Amanjaya in roughly 2 hours 10 minutes for about RM20. The ETS from Butterworth also reaches Ipoh in about 1 hour 40 minutes, but Butterworth sits on the mainland, so you would be crossing the bridge to reach it.

The ceremony begins at 9:00 AM, so plan to arrive in Ipoh the day before, Friday 27 November.

Via Kuala Lumpur: the easiest option is a direct coach from Ipoh's Amanjaya terminal straight to KLIA or KLIA2 — roughly 3.5 hours, about RM45, with departures from early morning until late at night (Yoyo Express, StarMart, Star Shuttle). It sets you down at the terminal itself, so there is no transfer to worry about. If you prefer the train, the ETS from Ipoh to KL Sentral takes about 2.5 hours, and the KLIA Ekspres then covers KL Sentral to the airport in 28 minutes (RM55) — do leave yourself a comfortable gap between the two. Driving takes 2 to 2.5 hours. From KL, flights to Kuching (KCH) run roughly every hour and take about 1 hour 45 minutes.

Via Penang: take a coach from Ipoh Amanjaya to Sungai Nibong, about 2 hours 10 minutes for around RM20. Sungai Nibong is already on the island and only ten minutes from Penang airport by Grab, which makes it the smoother choice for a flight. AirAsia then flies Penang (PEN) to Kuching (KCH) direct in about 2 hours. The ETS train is an option too, but it stops at Butterworth on the mainland, so you would still need to cross to the island for the airport.

Kuching International Airport is only around 20 minutes from the city centre. The reception starts at 6:30 PM on Saturday 5 December, so fly in earlier that day or the evening before for a comfortable buffer.

Tamil Methodist Church is in Buntong, just a few minutes from Ipoh city centre, so any central hotel is an easy drive to the ceremony. A few options: Weil Hotel (connected to the AEON Station 18 mall) and Kinta Riverfront Hotel & Suites for something central, Tower Regency Hotel as a reliable mid-range pick, or — for something more resort-style — The Haven or The Banjaran Hotsprings Retreat in Tambun, about 20 minutes out. Ipoh fills up on weekends, so booking early is wise.

Sarawak Golf Club is in Petra Jaya, just across the river and about 10 to 15 minutes from Kuching city centre, where most hotels are. Good central options, most along the riverfront: Pullman Kuching (hilltop, by the Hills mall), The Waterfront Hotel and Grand Margherita Hotel (both right on the river), and Riverside Majestic Hotel. Staying along the waterfront also puts you near the city's restaurants and night markets for the rest of your trip.

Yes — the church in Buntong and the Sarawak Golf Club both have parking within their compounds. The lunch afterwards is at the groom's residence on a residential street, where parking is roadside and limited, so car-pooling from the church is worth considering.
